Yeast mitochondrial ribosomal protein MRPS12
This translational unit includes the Kozak and codon-optimized sequence for the Saccharomyces cerevisiae [http://www.yeastgenome.org/locus/S000005319/overview MRPS12] gene, which encodes a ribosomal protein of the small subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome. The coding sequence begins with a mitochondrial localization signal (MLS), which is presumably removed in the mitochondrion. The resultant protein is a homologue of the highly conserved uS12 ribosomal protein (Ban et al.), which is essential for ribosome function.
The part sequence corresponds to nucleotides 694840-694361 on chromosome XIV of the S. cerevisiae S288C reference genome. See also: BBa_K1729002
