Acetate Kinase (AcK) from Escherichia coli
ackA encodes the protein acetate kinase. Under low glucose AcK phosphorylates acetate allowing it to be converted to acetyl-CoA by PTA (BBa_K901016). When there is an excess of glucose, the reaction runs in reverse and AcK converts acetyl-phosphate into acetate.
