An E. Coli containing BBa_K553010 constitutively produces the OC12 AHL quorum sensing molecule (Strain A). The ammount of this molecule is enough to induce the activation of part BBa_K553008 (production of OC8 AHL) in a co-cultivated bacteria (strain B).

The following assay demonstrates that the organic extract of a co-culture media contains a considerable ammount of OC8.

bacteria Intra-strain communication: An E. Coli containing BBa_K553010 constitutively produces the OC12 AHL quorum sensing molecule (Strain A). The ammount of this molecule is enough to induce the activation of part BBa_K553008 (production of OC8 AHL) in a co-cultivated bacteria (strain B).
