Applications of BBa_K216017
This part is designed to provide the aldehyde substrate for bacterial luciferase (BBa_K216008). If it is present, it removes the need to add exogenous substrate, making it much more convenient for environmental use. It can be put under the control of a separate promoter, either to build up aldehyde before induction of luciferase (potentially reducing the time delay before luminescence is seen) or to operate as an AND control, so that luminescence is only seen if both luciferase (luxAB) and luxCDE are induced.
