In our design, the engineered Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 will produce a large amount of CO2 when PE particles are degraded, which can’t be fully absorbed by the mangroves and has the possibility of doing harm to the environments. To make matters worse, the engineered bacteria are able to produce biofilms, where CO2 is hard to deliver. Therefore, we introduce PAO102 into Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 to realize the overexpressing of a kind of alpha-carbonic anhydrase, accelerating the conversion from CO2 to bicarbonate. So the carbon can be transported in the biofilm more easily in the form of bicarbonate, improving the efficiency of carbon delivery from Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 to Rhodopseudomonas palustris CGA009.
