IsPETase
IsPETase is a polyethylene terephthalate degrading enzyme first identified in Ideonella sakaiensis. IsPETase can decompose PET and release soluble products such as MHET, and TPA. IsPETase's ability to degrade PET is limited by its low stability. The crystallinity of the substrate also affects the function of IsPETase in degrading plastics, and IsPETase degrades less effectively in PET samples with higher crystallinity.
