rElo2
rElo2 encodes C16/18 elongase from rat which functions in the desaturase and elongase pathway and could convert C16:0 to C18:0.
Description
The wild-type Y. lipolytica Po1f can produce C18:0 under the catalysis of C16/18 elongase. rElo2 encodes C16/18 elongase of 267 amino acids from rat. Heterologous expression of rElo2 could catalyze C16:0 to C18:0 in Y. lipolytica.
Literature
Some studies have used C16/18 elongase from this source to produce high yields of omega-3 fatty acids.
