The Improved Fusarium Toehold Switch Sequence was derived from NUPACK and was constructed with the second lowest normalized ensemble defect rate possible. The sequence forms a hairpin loop, hiding machinery necessary for translation. However, in the presence of the FRP1 gene of <i>Fusarium oxysporum</i>, a plant pathogen, the hairpin loop unravels, allowing for expression of the downstream gene to occur. As a result, this sequence can be paired with a reporter gene to function as a biosensor for the presence of the plant disease <i>F. oxysporum</i>.

Improved Fusarium Toehold Switch Sequence
The Improved Fusarium Toehold Switch Sequence was derived from NUPACK and was constructed with the second lowest normalized ensemble defect rate possible. The sequence forms a hairpin loop, hiding machinery necessary for translation. However, in the presence of the FRP1 gene of Fusarium oxysporum, a plant pathogen, the hairpin loop unravels, allowing for expression of the downstream gene to occur. As a result, this sequence can be paired with a reporter gene to function as a biosensor for the presence of the plant disease F. oxysporum.
