PelB Signal Peptide
22 amino acid signal peptide which directs an attached protein to the periplasmic space in Gram-negative bacteria. This part is an E. coli codon-optimized version of BBa_J32015.
Usage and Biology
This part was used in our project to enable secretion of the SpyCatcher002-dCBD fusion protein to the periplasmic space for easier purification and minimized risk of intracellular aggregation, as there was no signal sequence already present in the construct. The signal peptide gets cleaved by a signal peptidase after the protein reaches the periplasm.
