The AgrC-AgrA is a two component signal transduction system which senses the AIP-1 molecule secreted by S.aureus.AgrC encodes a transmembrane histidine kinase receptor which binds to exogenous AIP-1 secreted by other S.aureus which inturn phosphorylates intracellular AgrA which acts as a signalling molecule.It then binds to P2 promoter in the operon to activate it.
 
 
The regulation of P2 promoter by the two component system is studied using GFP expression.Here,both pveg promoter and p2 promoter is aligned in a single direction.
