Tac is a hybrid promoter, which has the consensus -35 sequence from the trp promoter and the consensus -10 sequence from the lac UV5 promoter. It is reported to be 5-10 times stronger than the lac UV5 promoter and is induced using IPTG and other galactosides while not being subject to catabolite repression (1). The higher efficiency of this hybrid promoter with respect to either one of the parental promoters is attributed to the presence of consensus Pribnow box sequence in addition to consensus -35 sequence (2).

Tac Promoter

Tac is a hybrid promoter, which has the consensus -35 sequence from the trp promoter and the consensus -10 sequence from the lac UV5 promoter. It is reported to be 5-10 times stronger than the lac UV5 promoter and is induced using IPTG and other galactosides while not being subject to catabolite repression (1). The higher efficiency of this hybrid promoter with respect to either one of the parental promoters is attributed to the presence of consensus Pribnow box sequence in addition to consensus -35 sequence (2). This part was used in composite parts BBa_K3282004 and BBa_K3282007
