The 2018 Hawaii iGEM team designed a DNA sequence that codes for the proteins necessary for the formation of Virus-Like Particles. Gag; the structure forming unit of retroviral and retroviral-like elements, is further divided into the matrix, capsid, and nucleocapsid domains. The make-up and function of Gag domains varies widely between retroviral and retroviral-like elements. Our design derives from a Maize centromeric retrotransposon (CR) element.
