For the 2016 Team Rice project, we used the fluorescent protein iRFP670 for proof-of-concept experiments for our biosensors -- our future experiments would include genes encoding the enzymes to produce the small-molecule pigment Violacein, instead of fluorescent proteins. We placed the promoter pBAD upstream for protein production during these characterization experiments.
