Pcpc560 stands for the  560bp region found upstream of the cpcB gene encoding the beta subunit of c-phycocyanin in Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803. This region has been reported to act as a promoter that is able of producing heterologous proteins at a level up to 15% of total soluble protein in Synechocystis, which is comparable to levels achieved in E. coli (Zhou et al., 2014). In light of this, this genomic region has been termed as the Pcpc560 “super-strong” promoter.

Synechocystis Pcpc560 Phytobrick promoter

Pcpc560 stands for the 560bp region found upstream of the cpcB gene encoding the beta subunit of c-phycocyanin in Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803. This region has been reported to act as a promoter that is able of producing heterologous proteins at a level up to 15% of total soluble protein in Synechocystis, which is comparable to levels achieved in E. coli (1). In light of this, this genomic region has been termed as the Pcpc560 “super-strong” promoter. Pcpc560 contains two predicted promoters and 14 predicted transcription factor binding sites (1). A native RBS is present in the Pcpc560 sequence, meaning that this part can be cloned directly in front of a reporter (1).
