A construct designed to kill Lactococcus lactis bacteria in the case of an infection by the P335 species lactococcal phage Φ31
Usage and Biology
The promoter in this construct is a divergent phage-inducible promoter from the genetic switch region of the P335 species lactococcal phage Φ31. It contains a leftward and rightward promoter. Expression is induced from the rightward promoter upon initial phage infection, resulting in transcription of the downstream genes. Thus, when the phage infects the cell, it will activate the protein production that will kill the cell before the phage can successfully complete its life cycle.
