The following is a growing documentation of the Biobrick naming conventions.

Naming your bricks

Don't sweat this too much, just choose which category one might best describe your piece, tack on the corresponding naming convention (see below) and then go ahead and make it!

Some naming conventions

Part Types

  • BBa_J... = iGEM project part
  • BBa_S... = Intermediate Part
  • BBa_P... = Protein Generator Part
  • BBa_B... = Generic basic part
  • BBa_C... = Coding region
  • BBa_F... = Signalling part
  • BBa_R... = Regulatory part
