Polymerase Per Second:
Transcription initiation is defined as the number of times that an RNA Polymerase passes from the regulatory region and into the protein coding region of a BioBrick gene. PoPS are measured by introducing a test gene with the same regulatory region but with a CFP protein coding region and measuring the fluorescence.
This concept is related to Help:RiPS, the Ribosomes Per Second of a system.
another commonly used term is Help:TiPS, the Transcription initiations Per Second of a system.
