RhaR
RhaR is a regulatory element for the rhamnose metabolic genes in E. coli. In the presence of rhamnose, it complexes with the sugar to upregulate the RhaSR operon. RhaS is produced which in turn binds to the Prha promoter to upregulate the RhaBAD operon (Egan & Schleif, 1993).
Note that this upregulation is dependent on CRP-cAMP (cAMP receptor protein) being bound to the promoter. In the presence of glucose, cAMP levels are low and this rhamnose cascade is repressed.
