CheY is a chemotaxis protein that is activated by the protein CheA. This activation is done by phosphorylation. After CheY is activated it then acts upon the flagellar motor protein FLIM, causing clockwise movement of flagella. This motion is known as tumbling and causes randomly oriented movement. CheY is inactivated by CheZ (BBa_I752001 or CheZ mutant: BBa_K569007).
