This part was submitted by team [http://2011.igem.org/Team:Amsterdam Amsterdam 2011] as part of their project: '''''icE. coli'''''. Its purpose is to express the ''DnaK'' protein from ''Shewanella'' sp. AC10 ([[Part:BBa_K538002|BBa_K538002]]) under control of the Lac operon's promoter, ''pLacI'' ([[Part:BBa_R0010|BBa_R0010]]). Heterologous expression of this protein has rescued ''E. coli DnaK''-null mutants, and facilitated their growth at 15°C. This Brick's designers intend to use it to culture 'normal' ''E. coli'' faster at temperatures below its optimum (37°C), possibly even facilitating growth below the minimal growth temperature of 7°C.

This part was submitted by team [http://2011.igem.org/Team:Amsterdam Amsterdam 2011] as part of their project: icE. coli. Its purpose is to express the DnaK protein from Shewanella sp. AC10 (BBa_K538002) under control of the Lac operon's promoter, pLacI (BBa_R0010). Heterologous expression of this protein has rescued E. coli DnaK-null mutants, and facilitated their growth at 15°C. This Brick's designers intend to use it to culture 'normal' E. coli faster at temperatures below its optimum (37°C), possibly even facilitating growth below the minimal growth temperature of 7°C.

Refer to the main page of the coding region (SheDnaK: BBa_K538002) for more information on how SheDnaK facilitates cold resistance in E. coli.
