BBa_K590031 shortThis part encodes an enzyme that removes the carbonyl group (C=O) from a fatty aldehyde, yielding an alkane one carbon shorter than the original aldehyde and a molecule of formate. Works together with [https://parts.igem.org/wiki/index.php?title=Part:BBa_K590032 Acyl-ACP Reductase] to produce odd chain length alkanes.[[Image:Fatty_Acid_Biosynthesis.jpg#file |250px]]
===Usage and Biology===
When used together with Acyl-ACP Reductase, Aldehyde Decarbonylase reduces fatty aldehydes into odd chain length alkanes (mostly pentadecanes).
