Tutorial:Adding a BioBrick Composite Part

Part creation is pretty straightforward if you have some basic information about your composite part and understand a little about the Registry's mechanics.

In this tutorial you will be uploading a composite part to your Registry sandbox, annotating this composition/device, and adding references and other descriptive information. In this tutorial, we take the malE gene BioBrick created in the basic tutorial and create a MBP Output Module, by coupling the orginal BioBrick with a standard rbs and terminator from the registry. The end result is a module which takes a standard PoPs input and can initiate chemotaxis and maltose-transport when utilised in an appropriate chassis.

Before you add your BioBrick to your sandbox, you'll need to collect the following information:

  • A composite part/device name
  • The BioBrick subparts names of the device yo wish to construct
  • A short description of the composite part/device
  • A long description of the composite part/device, including references

Remember, this information is ultimately not just for you - while at first you will be using the part's pages to document, keep a record and share information with your group, eventually you'll want to release your part to the Registry. To this end, you should think about who your pages are relevant to initially and adapt them throughout the development process. Eventually, you should look to include the information anyone that wants to use the part will need and want access to. The better you make your part's record, the more likely your part will be used in assemblies.

Step 1: Registry Account

You will need a registry account if you don't have one.

It is recomemended you become familiar with adding a basic part by completing the tutorial, even for a fictional BioBrick.
