traAC

The traA and traC genes are part of the tra region of the native Ti plasmid of Agrobacterium tumefaciens . The traAC part is composed of the region between the traA and traAC coding regions and exhibits bidirectional promoter behavior (Faure and Lang, 2014). The tra region is regulated by the TraR protein when TraR is bound to Agrobacterium Autoinducer (AAI) (Piper et al., 1993). In turn, TraR is upregulated by opines, which are metabolites released by infected plant cells. (Fuqua and Winans, 1994). Therefore, this promoter is activated by a quorum of bacteria and a nearby infected plant cell. The TraAC promoter can be used to conditionally express a gene in cases of Agrobacterium infection of a plant.
