traR
traR is a gene found in the nopaline type Ti-plasmid pTIC58 from Agrobacterium tumerfaciens. It is part of the LuxR family of transcriptional factors is activated by N-3-oxooctanoyl-L-homoserine lactone, also known as the Agrobacterium autoinducer (AAI) in order to be positively regulated (Zhu & Winans, 1999). The literature shows that this gene is required for conjugation of the Ti plasmid between Agrobacterium tumerfaciens strains and that TraR is required to activate transcription of the tra and trb operons (Cook, Li, Ruchaud, Padden & Farrand, 1997). The TraR promoter can be used to positively regulate a gene in Agrobacterium in the presence of AAI.
