Codon optimized feoB gene for Synechococcus sp. CB0101 with restriction uptake sites removed
FeoB is found in many bacteria species, and the gene is best-documented as it occurs in E. coli. However, it is also (likely) a critical iron uptake gene for Synechocystis sp. PCC6803. It is one of three parts of the Ferrous Iron Transport system--FeoB is a large membrane protein that is capable of hydrolysing GTP. It is useful to bacteria living in anaerobic or low pH conditions where the Fe2+ form of iron is dominant. It should be noted that FeoB is part of a system, and its efficacy may depend on the presence of FeoA and FeoC.
